So here is something very special from DMGE to some great folks.

This project sent us to the Garden State.  It has a distinct sense of place and feels very special when you are there.  It's a large site and the garden is situated to take full advantage of both the sunrise and sunset.  It's resort-like and the style is traditional.  It boasts a swimming pool, water feature, and infinity edge spa, a pavilion with outdoor kitchen, television, seating for 12, bathroom and lots of storage, a fire pit, and travertine flooring surrounded by lush gardens and a forest backdrop.
Construction is ongoing meaning it's a work in progress.

I don't want to say, because it sounds like an over-used cliche, that this garden launched us into space but it did.  The amount of attention that we received from the public as well as from our peers made this one of the most rewarding projects we have ever worked on.  From this garden, we got Ouisies and the Cotton Club and on and on and on.  During our run, it's safe to say that we planted every type of annual flower known to grow in Houston and we loved every minute of it.  

Drawings & Illustrations

The power of visualization.  It can never be said that we are anything but prolific.  This gallery demonstrates our creativity.  Quite the useful tool for both designer and client alike are the computer aided (CAD) drawings.  The most effective way to quickly convey the dream up close and in differing views, angles, seasons, times of day and renditions.  Available as an option as part of the design phase. A Gardeners Journal

This densely planted, constantly changing garden is located in the Houston Heights district and is, for this homeowner with a passion for gardening, a work in progress and is ever changing.  The style is park-like-wildlife-habitat and features no grass, many varieties of both shade and flowering trees, a water feature (a reliable source of water is critical for the wildlife), many fragrant plants, perennials, and annuals.   A circular terrace constructed of dove grey field stone is the main terrace for entertaining.  The entire garden lines up with the central axis of the house and main living areas for an incredible view from inside.  Every window of the house affords lush, green views. Music is piped into the garden from the house audio system and can be enjoyed from all areas of the garden.  The house was purchased by the homeowner in 1997 and immediately the garden transformation began.  The Before (1997) and during photos of this cottage style bungalow are here for your review and enjoyment.  These gardens are a great source of joy for the homeowner and has been published no less than a dozen times in various publications.  To see which visit DMGE.com.

West University Place

Well-known Texas architect Birdsall Briscoe's Southern mansion is indeed a classic.  4th in a series of the garden projects we designed, built, and care for to this day for this particularly wonderful patron.  We consider it a privilege and honor.

This garden is the result of two properties joined together to make one very special home and garden that is quite the happy place for butterflies, bees, birds, other wildlife, and humans alike. This garden, minutes from Downtown and Rice University, is a real jewel.  Features of this garden include a swimming pool with limestone coping and a water feature, an outdoor kitchen, television, custom arbor with Chinese wisteria, travertine flooring and a lush garden with a privacy wall of holly trees.  Nestled in a small space, this garden proves that good things come in small packages.  It's a work in progress and is being constructed in phases.

Mediterranean Style Home and Gardens

Completed in the early 2000's, this Mediterranean style resort estate and gardens, in Houston, Texas, has it all.  Including expansive, formally styled and planted Italian gardens, a beautifully planted cutting garden, 8 very large and majestic queen palms, an outdoor kitchen, a large swimming pool and spa, a pool house, Quartzite paving, flagstone garden pathways, brick column pergola and a garden folly as well as lush gardens with relaxing shade and blooming shrubs, roses and many large shade and flowering trees.

A Garden Room Unlike any Other

Completed mid 2000, this Museum District contemporary home in Houston, Texas, features a private outdoor garden room, perfect for entertaining, with a swimming pool, a spa, a raised iron pergola, both covered and draped in canvas for drama, cut flagstone paving, relaxing semi tropical gardens, many small evergreen trees, blooming shrubs, flowers large stately oak trees and flowering trees.

This recently completed garden, in The Houston Heights neighborhood, is all about being eclectic.  Geometry, color and total privacy are featured along with a swimming pool, an allee of meticulously pruned Holly trees and a screened porch off the master bedroom.  Viewed from the master bath is another lushly planted small garden with all things fragrant and green and exotic.

A pie shaped side yard presented more than a little challenge but as you can see in this gallery, we pulled it off.  Elements that make this garden room special are of course the swimming pool, the custom pergola an al fresco dining area, a safe and secure place for the young ones to play and a holly privacy wall.

Italian Renaissance Style Home and Gardens

Completed in early 2000's and located in Hedwig Village,  this Italian Renaissance style home and gardens was built for a master gardener and family.  It features a plethora of trees both shade and flowering and densely planted gardens in an informal style and with curvilinear lines.  Although we did not design the pool at DMGE, it was our goal to design the gardens as if everything was drawn by the same hand.  Here judge for yourself and let us know what you think.

This garden was designed for a young family and the outdoor playset takes center stage.  However, we designed it so that a future swimming pool could be added without too much fuss.  So for now, the children are the focal point as they should be, and what a lovely playroom.

Small in scale compared to the others, this garden features a swimming pool and water feature, an arbor, a putting green and a very impressive custom fence constructed of stucco and iron wood.  4 antique olive vessels double as containers which frame the pool and the flooring is travertine.
